Thank the Donor: Connecting patients with their donors like never before

We can’t manufacture blood; it only comes from donors who choose to help save lives. The Blood Center’s Thank The Donor program lets patients send anonymous thank-you messages directly to their blood donors. Although not every recipient gets this chance, the program breaks down the barriers that used to separate donors and recipients.

This unique program gives patients a direct way to show appreciation to the donors who helped save their lives. After receiving a blood transfusion, patients can send a thank-you message through a secure platform, connecting with their donor while maintaining complete privacy. The program guarantees 100% privacy, ensuring no personal details are shared between the patient and donor. The process remains one-way, with donors receiving heartfelt messages without the need for further communication. This initiative strengthens the connection between donors and recipients, making blood donations even more impactful.

How It Works

  • TBC receives donated blood, tests it in the lab, and labels it for the hospital with a green “Thank The Donor” heart.
  • After receiving the blood, the patient can follow the instructions on the heart label to submit a message on ThankTheDonor.org
  • Using a unique barcode ID, TBC receives the patient’s message and anonymously sends it to the blood donor’s email!

The process fully protects both patient and donor privacy. Patients control whether to share their message only with the donor, or also with the blood center staff and on social media.
